Russia Rebuts Intel-Sharing with Iran Claims
Rudenko made the remarks at a public event in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, where he addressed the deepening conflict engulfing the Middle East.
"Moscow does not share intelligence data with Tehran, unlike the US and the UK, which transfer such information to Ukraine for strikes on Russian civilian infrastructure," the Russian Embassy in Sri Lanka quoted him as saying.
Rudenko went further, characterising Iran as the aggrieved party in the current conflict, stressing that "Iran is the victim of an unprovoked and illegitimate attack."
"Tehran is exercising its right to self-defense," the Russian deputy foreign minister noted.
The remarks come as regional tensions remain at a dangerous peak. US and Israeli forces have been conducting airstrikes against Iran since February 28, a campaign that has claimed the lives of more than 1,400 people to date, according to the US-based monitoring group Human Rights Activists in Iran.
Iran, in turn, has mounted retaliatory drone and missile strikes directed at Israel, as well as at Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military installations — a widening counter-offensive that has inflicted casualties, caused significant infrastructure damage, and sent shockwaves through global markets and international aviation networks.
