Jordan Rejects Role in Regional Conflicts

(MENAFN) Jordan will not serve as a “battleground” in any regional confrontation nor as a base for military operations targeting Iran, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi affirmed during a conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, on Monday.

According to a statement from the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, Safadi made these comments during a telephone discussion in which both officials reviewed bilateral relations and broader regional matters. The ministry shared details of the call on US social media company X.

Safadi stressed that Amman will not permit any actor to infringe upon Jordanian airspace or endanger national security and the well-being of its population, stating that Jordan “and will confront with all its capabilities any attempt to breach its airspace.”

He further reaffirmed Jordan’s firm opposition to violations of state sovereignty and underscored the importance of adhering to international law, the statement noted.

The two senior diplomats also exchanged views on developments concerning Iran’s nuclear program, with Safadi urging diplomacy and dialogue as the most effective means to address the issue.

Additionally, the foreign minister conveyed Jordan’s backing for initiatives focused on de-escalation, reducing tensions, and restoring stability across the region.

Araghchi, in turn, commended Jordan’s stance and its ongoing efforts to promote security and stability in the Middle East, according to the same statement.

Both ministers agreed to maintain ongoing communication and coordination regarding regional developments, as well as diplomatic initiatives aimed at easing tensions and fostering dialogue.
